Ice Cucumber Pepsi

This is much newer than most of my submissions, but since most people probably weren’t aware of it ever existed and it is so unique I thought I would share it. This is a limited edition cucumber flavor Pepsi from Japan. It was out in 2007 and it really does taste like a sweetened cucumber. I love the look of the bottle and the soda itself. There aren’t too many green sodas out there.

I totally missed this but anything involving a vegetable being near a soda isn’t something I would naturally gravitate towards. The thought of Cucumber Pepsi is completely insane though so I probably would have bought a bottle for my collection had I stumbled on it.

It always seemed blasphemous to me that celery would be an ingredient in soda. Seems counterproductive to the sugar rush one anticipates when downing this stuff. Keep the celery and cucumbers as garnish and give me the syrup!

I think this should be marketed as a soda and a beauty treatment. Throw in on your face to bring down puffiness. Two ways to refresh yourself.

The only place I have ever seen Cel-Ray is NYC. I actually liked it, but I could never taste the celery to be honest. It was very similar to ginger ale to me. The interesting thing about this soda is it contains no cucumber at all. It is all artificial flavoring. I suppose the chemists that created artificial cucumber flavor needed to do something with it. Those chemists did a good job though, I actually liked it.

I might post some more unique Japanese variations of products we love in the west. I have a lot of Japanese Kit Kat wrappers (sorry, I ate the actual candy), and some of the flavors are very interesting. Just to give an example, soy sauce, cherry blossom, and red beans are all flavors. They sound gross, but they tasted great.
