Valentine’s Dance 1973 (Valentine’s Day Contest Submission)

Mark Milligan Submitted by Mark Milligan
February 5th, 2010

I keep seeing an advertisement on Facebook depicting two couples dressed up at a dance  telling me to “flash back to 1973,” and it reminds me of this picture.

This is a picture of our high school senior class officers.  It’s obvious the young man in the bow tie clown outfit is quite smitten with that purring feline standing next to him.

Which senior class officer was the smitten little puppy on the left? I love his hair helmet and thank God he got it together to buy those fabulous pants to attract the girl next to him with the collar as wide as a landing strip. In a perfect world I’d like to think that his massively oversized bow tie is the same pattern as his pants.

The first thing she said when I told her I’d submitted the picture was “My God with that dress I wore with the huge collar?” I still have the bow tie in a drawer.

The senior class officer was the President-they elected me the first week of school when I was out of state (I was in L.A. and the rumor was that I wasn’t coming back to the midwest to finish school) and the tie is striped, the pants were checked. Hard to see, but the jacket has red stitching around the lapel. This is how one topped suede saddle oxfords. That girl (class secretary) and I just had our 35th anniversary Jan 3.

This is amazing. You are def working that bow tie. I’m jealous that I never once owned a bow tie like this.
