A couple of weeks ago i notice someone had posted a great neon cowboy store sign. I thought, for my first submission, i’d submit this fine specimen. It’s located on the corner of Third St. and Florida St. aka Highway 61 Business, in downtown Baton Rouge, La on top of a one story building two blocks from the Mississippi River. The sign is maintained by our local power company, Entergy, hence their small neon sign underneath. It goes thru it’s motions correctly most of the time. The above link is to my YouTube channel which shows the sign in action in all it’s glory. It’s not quite dark in the short video but i figured i’d better do a camera video of it when it was fully operational. I am not aware of any other neon Coke signs, this may be the only one in the country, at least that’s still operational.

Gorgeous! And thanks so much for the video. Sounds like there’s a lot of action on that corner.

I wish this sign was on top of my house. For now I’ll just tip back a can of Coke and salute that fantastic vintage sign that Entergy had the good sense to leave up and functional.

FAB-U-LOUS…I love the video too.. What a great community service project for them… I heart Entergy..
Wishing more power companies across the country would take on a community project like this.. A Old Theatre Marquee would be so nice … Thanks, love your post..

Thank y’all very much. It’s really amazing that the sign has managed to last as long as it has. Downtown BR is experience a bit of a comeback now after years of desertion, at least at nightime. A good bit of it had been razed due to “progress” ie, let’s put up another parking lot. A couple of really nice movie theatres were turned into parking lots much to the chagrin of preservationists. Oh don’t ya wish the Hart and Paramount were still there, especially the Paramount with it’s double balcony and box seats along the side and it’s pipe organ. And yes, Allee, the sign would look real good on top of your house, mine too. The Varsity Theatre by LSU has a nice sign, i’ll get a pic of that eventually.
