First, let me say that Groucho Marx was a comic genius. Second, that his genius didn’t rub off on this little attempt to capitalize on his name. It’s a ceramic figurine, about three inches tall, on a base of some kind of hard material. What I find most impressive is the effort that went into this – it’s not just some simple plastic mold. This was cast and hand painted, the wire glasses shaped and attached, the humorous motto printed on silver foil and affixed to the front, and, to top it off, someone deemed it worthy of a luxurious red felt pad on the bottom. It was made in Taiwan. Even stranger, we actually have two of these, and the other (sadly not in as good condition) says “We’re overpaying him but he’s worth it.” It makes me feel like honking a horn and walking around bent over with a strange, wild look in my eyes.

What Allee has to say about this:
Well, this is staggering for so many reasons, most of which you list above. I also like that the body looks like a grenade. And what’s that long black thing on his torso, a tie? And why did they pick a ladybug? Something a little more masculine for Groucho please! I also love that you can still see the glue where the antennae go into the head, that the eyes are painted so close together they position wrong in the glasses, and what the hell is going on with that cigar? Beautiful Kitsch all the way around!
