Lakeside Amusement Park, Denver: “Hurricane”

Lakeside originally opened in 1908.  It was originally called “White City.”  The art deco attraction signs and ticket booths were installed mid-century.

Here’s the “skoota boats.”  They’re bumper boats.  I think the sign is better than the boats.

Here’s an aerial from  1966.  The highway under construction in the background is I-70.

    How big is this amusement park? Are tons of vintage rides/signs/structures left?

      The most famous vintage ride is the Cyclone Roller Coaster. Built in 1940, it’s a landmark on Denver’s westside. Cyclone coming up next. It has been designated as an Ace Coaster Ride by National Coaster Enthusiasts.

      There are approximately 37 rides.

      The original buildings in 1908, of which at least two still stand, the “tower of jewels,” and the “Casino Theater,” were of the Beaux Arts architectural style.

    I remember riding the roller coaster there in the late 60’s. When it went out over that water………well….I did more than scream!! Great park……..great memories…….great photos! Thanks for sharing!

    Beautiful!!.. So much great history. I was in Denver a couple years ago for the Denver Modernism show, wish I knew about the park then, would love to see it. Looking forward to more pictures.
