I thought I would start off this series with the thing that really got my attention when I walked in the art studio at “Willis Wonderland”.  It’s Allee and Hawkeye!   Hawkeye was with Allee from 1969 to 1983.  Wish I had the chance to get more details on the life of Hawkeye.

Hawkeye was my very first dog ever. I had just moved to Manhattan and lived at 225 E. 76th St. with two roommates. I was working at Columbia/Epic records writing ad copy and it was before I even started writing songs. I wasn’t even thinking about getting a dog but walked past a storefront on First or Second avenue and 94th St. that was empty except for a woman sitting at a bridge table with three puppies, all of them sitting in their own chair and all of them eating strawberry ice cream with the lady. I can’t even remember if there was a puppies for sale sign or if I just asked but I took one look at him and knew he was mine.

On the walk back to 69th St. with my new puppy I was racking my brain for a name. I had just seen the movie MASH so Hawkeye popped into my head. I was absolutely inseparable from him. He lived with me all my years in Manhattan and drove cross country with me when I moved to LA in 1976. A few times I dyed the hair that stood up pink. That was way before the trend to such things happened. He was an unbelievably incredibly great dog and lived every place I’ve ever lived in LA with me, including Willis Wonderland.

Cannot thank you enough for more detail about little Hawkeye. Just looking at this picture (I do love everything about it) makes me smile.

Love it! Love it! Love it! I makes me smile too, and you can tell just how much you both loved each other! Pets can be more than a pet……..and looks like Hawkeye was one of those special friends!
