This piece was made for my "What Have I Done To Deserve This" Art Opening at The Dorothy Goldeen Gallery in Santa Monica, CA in 1988. The song had just been a hit by Pet Shop Boys with Dusty Springfield so it was logical for me to make a motorized art piece of this as I had just finished motorized pieces of "Neutron Dance" and "Boogie Wonderland" which were also hit songs for me. This was a chance fo me to show what I thought the song, written with Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, was about as often the music videos made no sense to me. "What Have I Done To Deserve This" was about a couple who used to have an idyllic relationship, portrayed in the scenes around the top edge of the piece, but now as they're sitting in their kitchen, it feels to the woman like her soon to be ex-boyfriend is frying her in the electric chair.
